Directly above the town Blankenheim the over 900 years old castle „Burg Grafenberg“ sits enthroned, in which the youth hostel Burg Blankenheim is placed. It is the landmark of the town, in which you can gaze at half-timber houses from several centuries. By the way, under one of these old half-timber houses the river Ahr arises, which blazes its trail more then 90 kilometers up to the river Rhine. Here also starts the predicate hiking path „AhrSteig“, which leads in several stages up to Sinzig am Rhein. Much cosier it happens at a walk in the town where there is a lot to discover. Did you know that in Blankenheim the relic of a Roman manor is located? The so-called „Römervilla“ ranks amongst the most important archaeological monuments from the Roman Times in the Rhineland. Especially impressive too is the zoological garden tunnel: the approximate 150 meters long water conduct served in the Middle Ages the water supply of the castle and was discovered and exposed just in the year 1997.
